Our organic Fairtrade physalis are grown by small-scale farmers in the Colombian Andes, handpicked when fully ripe, gently dried, and coated in dark Fairtrade chocolate. Wonderfully fruity with a sweet-sour taste. 100% natural, vegan, and additive-free.

Our chocolate coated physalis - also known as goldenberries or Andean berries - combines fruity freshness with the finest chocolate. The base is dried physalis - a small, golden berry with a distinctive sweet-sour flavour. Covered in melt-in-the-mouth organic chocolate with 60% cocoa, the result is a subtle combination of fruity acidity and tart sweetness. Thanks to the high cocoa content and the natural fruit flavour of physalis, the dragées are not only a taste sensation, but also a great alternative to traditional sweets. Less sweet but more flavourful.

Our chocolate physalis are perfect as an energising snack, on top of muesli and cereals, or as a sweet accompaniment to an espresso.

    Origin & Processing

Physalis: Organic physalis are grown by small farmers in Nariño in the southwest of Colombia. They grow at altitudes between 1900 and 3000 metres above sea level. The cooperative has 14 members and supports 95 families who together cultivate 24.5 hectares organically.

Drying: Once harvested, the organic physalis are carefully washed, sorted and gently dried without additives by our Colombian partner Fruandes.

Chocolate: Once dried, they are sent to Equiori, the first organic chocolate manufacturer in Colombia. They coat the dried fruit in dark organic chocolate made from 60% Fairtrade cocoa. Equiori sources its cocoa beans from three small farming cooperatives with 150 farmer families in different regions of the Colombian Andes. After chocolating, the finished organic Fairtrade chocolate fruits are packaged directly on site.

About Fruandes: Pakka is a long-standing partner of Fruandes - Frutos de los Andes - a socially committed Colombian organic dried fruit producer based in Ibagué, west of Bogotá. The company's aim is to produce high quality, healthy organic products locally and to share the added value fairly between producers, processors and consumers. In recent years, Pakka has helped Fruandes build a new processing plant, modernise its packaging line and expand its warehouse. This has enabled the company to grow and create valuable jobs in a rural region. Learn more

About Equiori: Pakka is a founding partner of Equiori, Colombia's first socially responsible organic chocolate manufacturer, based in Bogotá. The company's mission is to produce high quality, healthy organic chocolate locally and to share the added value fairly between producers, processors and consumers. Learn more

The chocolate physalis are produced from A to Z in Colombia - directly in the country of origin of the raw materials. Pakka deliberately favours direct trade and does not use middlemen. Working closely with its partners, Fruandes and Equiori, as well as the smallholder cooperatives, strengthens the entire local value chain. This not only ensures the best product quality, but also creates fair jobs in structurally weak regions of Colombia and makes a sustainable contribution to economic development.
